Australian student visas and skilled migration assessments (through VETASSESS, Engineers Australia, ACS, and similar bodies) require that Nepali academic certificates — degree certificates, transcripts, and mark sheets — be accompanied by certified English translations. Hamro Notary translates and certifies these documents for thousands of Nepali students applying to Australian universities each year.

For skills assessment bodies, the translation must match the document exactly, including course names, grades, and institution details. Our academic translation team is trained on Nepali university and board examination formats (TU, PU, CTEVT, SLC/SEE, +2) and produces translations that match these requirements precisely.

Some Australian universities and skills assessors also require MoFA attestation. We coordinate the complete chain — certified translation, notarisation, and MoFA attestation at Singhdurbar — in one service.

What to Bring

  • Original degree certificate or transcript
  • Mark sheets (all years/semesters)
  • SLC/SEE and +2 certificates if required
  • Passport copy

Academic Documents Required for Different Australian Pathways

The documents required depend on whether you are applying for a student visa, a skills assessment for migration, or a permanent residency application. For Australian student visas (subclass 500), the standard requirement is: SLC/SEE certificate and marksheet (certified English translation), plus 2/Higher Secondary certificate and marksheet (certified translation), and for postgraduate applicants, bachelor's degree and transcripts. Documents are typically submitted via the ImmiAccount portal as PDF uploads.

For skilled migration via skills assessment bodies, requirements vary by organisation. Engineers Australia (CDR pathway), ACS, VETASSESS, AIPT, and TRA each have specific document submission requirements. These bodies typically require the original academic document alongside the certified translation, and some additionally require a verification letter from the issuing Nepali university or board. At Hamro Notary, we advise on the exact requirements for your specific assessment body before preparing any translations.

Credential evaluation bodies such as NOOSR (National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition) and individual Australian universities have their own requirements that may differ from immigration requirements. If you are submitting documents for both immigration and university enrollment purposes, we confirm which format satisfies both — in most cases a single certified translation set covers all requirements.

How Hamro Notary Handles Complex Nepali Academic Documents

Nepali academic certificates present specific translation challenges that require expertise: grade formats that differ between TU, KU, PU, and examination boards; Devanagari script that includes non-standard abbreviations; older certificates issued before computerised record-keeping; and mark sheets that span multiple pages in non-standard formats. Our academic translation team has handled thousands of Nepali certificates from all major universities and boards.

For transcripts — which list all subjects, marks, and grades across multiple semesters or years — we provide a complete page-by-page translation that preserves the original layout and includes all subject codes, credit hours, and final grade point averages. Australian skills assessment bodies require this level of detail, and our transcript translations are formatted to meet their submission requirements.

If your original academic certificate has been lost and you are submitting a verified duplicate from NEB (National Examinations Board) or a certified copy from the university registrar, we advise on how to prepare the document for translation and attestation so that Australian authorities accept it as equivalent to the original. We have experience with replacement certificate submissions to the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ACS/VETASSESS accept translations from Nepal?

Yes. Australian skills assessment bodies accept certified translations prepared by qualified translators outside Australia. Hamro Notary's certifications are accepted. Include the original document alongside the translation when submitting to the assessor.

Do I need to get my degree verified by TU/PU before translation?

Some pathways require a verification letter from the issuing university. We can advise you based on your specific assessment body's requirements. If a university verification letter is needed, we will coordinate obtaining it.

How long does the full process take?

Translation is same-day. MoFA attestation takes 3–5 working days. We can process the entire chain within one week.

Does Australia accept academic translations produced in Nepal — not by a NAATI translator?

Yes. NAATI accreditation is an Australian credential — translators based in Nepal are not eligible to obtain it. The Department of Home Affairs and all Australian skills assessment bodies (ACS, VETASSESS, Engineers Australia) accept certified translations produced overseas by qualified translators who sign a declaration of accuracy. Hamro Notary's translations are produced by qualified professionals who provide this declaration, and our translations are routinely accepted without issue.

My SLC certificate says 'Distinction' in Nepali — how is this translated?

Grade and achievement designations from Nepali academic certificates are translated using standard English equivalents: Distinction (विशिष्ट), First Division (प्रथम श्रेणी), Second Division (द्वितीय श्रेणी), and so on. Where a direct English equivalent exists, we use it. Where the Nepali term has no standard English equivalent, we translate it descriptively and include the original Nepali term in parentheses. Our academic translation team is familiar with all Nepal Examination Board and Tribhuvan University grading formats.
